1100 miles later, I'm hugging my sweet Annaliese

Driving the second day, after an 11 hour first day, wasn't bad at all.  We've only finished a quarter of 5 lb bag of peanut m and ms, and consumed umpteen Camelbak refills.  Bathroom breaks occurred every few hours but didn't disrupt the drive.  Kirsten entertained me across the Smokies, through the Tenn agricultural plains, across the Mississippi, and through Arkansas cornfields by reading  aloud "The Mountains Echoed" (the latest book by the author of the Kite Runner.)  It transported past the brightly painted, or ancient looking, crop dusters, past the vastness of North Texas' plains dotted with several cows and horses, and the unexpected appearance of a wetland oasis for herons.

We entered Texas and two striking numbers appeared:  a 75 MPH speed limit (I zoomed along at 80! ....and both carriers remained firmly anchored!)  Thing two!!!  The gas cost 30 cents more per gallon than anywhere else!  What the heck?  $3.45/gallon?

We're settled now.  The kids have been bouncing on their cousin's trampoline.  Where's the nearest hospital?

We've devoured eggs, bacon, biscuits, and all the coffee you can chug at a Dallas greasy spoon.

We've cleaned and reorganized the van multiple times, and still don't have leg room....but that's another post!
